Brighton boss Chris Hughton upbeat ahead of meeting with former club Newcastle

Krul moved to Brighton on a season-long loan last month after 12 years at Newcastle and has signed a one-year contract, Brighton said on its website.

The permanent deal will now allow the Dutch worldwide to face his former club when the Magpies travel to the American Express Community Stadium this Saturday.

The move is believed to pave the way for Krul to appear against his former club when Newcastle travel to Brighton at the weekend.

During his time at St. James' Park, the 29-year-old also spent time out on loan at Falkirk, Carlisle United, Ajax and AZ Alkmaar, and earned eight caps for Holland.

The Netherlands keeper has featured sparsely since suffering a serious knee injury on global duty, but made 18 appearances for AZ in the Eredivisie last season.

"Everyone at Newcastle United would like to thank Tim for his long service to the club, and wish him and his family well for the future".

Mat Ryan might just have genuine competition to hold on to the No.1 jersey at Premier League new boys Brighton and Hove Albion.

Brighton faced Bournemouth on Tuesday night, five days ahead of the Premier League game against Newcastle.

The Seagulls host the team who just edged them to last season's Championship title, and who sacked Hughton as manager in December 2010, while pursuing their second victory of the Premier League campaign after what has been a challenging start.
