BLD Podcast: Looking for a Bills W in Carolina

Despite that he was shut down in the Super Bowl by the Denver defense. But the Panthers began this season with a win and a cover, and they will shoot for a 2-0 start when they battle Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina. The five-time Pro Bowler rushed for 1237 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, and picked up where he left off with 110 yards against the Jets last week. The Bills quarterback says the team is capable of success while executing plays mostly for tight ends and running backs. That'll be, just from the human side of it, a little bit different. Still, McDermott will take his shots. "I was out there trying to do the best I can with the plays that were given to me and what they were showing us". However, it is fair to wonder if a player with that kind of contract - and with that low of a snap percentage - is truly worth to keep around from a value standpoint past this season.

"His vision, athleticism and mindset", said Panthers cornerback Kevon Seymour, who was traded to Carolina earlier this month after spending the past year and a half with McCoy in Buffalo. "And the way we're doing this is I'm only one piece of the whole puzzle". The question is whether the Bills can stop it - and everything after that. An ankle injury has defined his offseason and preseason, to the point where he wasn't able to participate in much of it. Tyrod Taylor's greatest strength as a passer is his ability to throw downfield, and the Bills need to have those plays locked and loaded in their playbook this week. Beane knows nearly all the players from his time in the Carolina front office. However, that does not seem to be the case with the Bills who pronounced that Sunday was "a step forward" for Glenn in his battle back from the ankle injury.

Despite their strict precautions on Newton's throwing shoulder, Rivera said that the quarterback will still participate in some non-contact drills and other stuff in practice. However, during practice, I did not spot Dawkins working over at right tackle in any capacity.

Don't be surprised if Kuechly is lined up wherever Shady is all game long, as he's the Panthers best chance at stopping the Buffalo offense. Seeing Rivera on the opposite side of the field will likely be a bit unusual for McDermott. The snap counts for Glenn will be an interesting marker this weekend.

The Bills new group of wide receivers didn't jump off the box score on Sunday against the Jets.

The Bills hired longtime Panthers front office executive Brandon Beane as their new general manager.

You can see his comfort level increasing every week. As the game begins, though, they won't have to worry about Gaines. Buffalo will have to put a safety on the Stanford product to stay with him in coverage. Jenkins played four years for the Dolphins and recorded 219 tackles.

With McDermott running the show, you would expect the Bills defense to be top notch.
