WWE 'SmackDown Live' Match Results & Spoilers May 16th

Also at ringside sat Styles' upcoming Backlash opponent, United States Champion Kevin Owens who was providing guest commentary for the match. Chris Jericho's "talk show" was the Highlight Reel, but Owens injured him a couple weeks ago. He introduced the audience to the latest episode of his Highlight Reels and said he would beat AJ Styles at Backlash 2017.

AJ Styles fights Jinder Mahal on "SmackDown Live" tonight.

The go-home show for Backlash was not as bland as one might expect, though it did little to get one excited for Sunday night's pay-per-view.

Jinder has since aligned himself with The Singh Brothers, Gurv and Harv Sihra (formerly known as The Bollywood Boyz on NXT) to help establish himself as a thorn in Orton's side and add credibility to a match that quite literally came outta nowhere. Sami says his match with Baron Corbin at Backlash has been granted.

Mahal has what it takes to be one of SmackDown's top heels, and a WWE championship win would be the quickest and most effective way to accomplish that.

Non-Title: Carmella (with Natalya, Tamina, & James Ellsworth) def. Naomi (with Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch) by roll-up after Naomi is distracted by a brawl on the outside.

A contract signing happened next with Shane McMahon present in the ring. When Becky Lynch walked to the ring it nearly looked like she was going to go along to get along, but thankfully the Irish Lass-kicker did what she does best before getting super-kicked for her efforts.

Dolph Ziggler cut a promo on Shinsuke Nakamura before facing him at Backlash.

It was then that the Singh Brothers sneak-attacked the champ from behind.

We're back with Corbin in control of Orton. Corbin with a bog boot, but Orton kicks out. The guy was getting some fairly positive reactions in the build up to Mania this year, with some fans even wanting him to be included in the Mania match for the WWE title. Corbin continues the assault, not letting Orton get any room to breathe. Moments later, The Viper strike with the RKO to pick up the win. Orton went for a DDT on the brothers but Mahal hit him from behind. Corbin connected with Deep Six for a near fall. Mahal hit his finisher to Orton to end the show.
