S Jamal Adams runs blazing 40 at pro day

When it comes to draft projections and the possibility of being an early round selection, LSU safety Jamal Adams isn't backing down.

Instead, most of his time at pro day was going through pass catching drills and even lined up out wide as a receiver.

The projected 10-pick weighed in at 228 Wednesday - 12 pounds lighter than he did at the combine. He went on to have an uneven day, thoroughly disappointing with his vertical leap but turning some heads with a 4.5 40-Yard Dash.

When Leonard Fournette took the field in Indianapolis back in February at the NFL Combine, all anyone wanted to talk about was his weight. That's my main goal, but as a rookie coming in I just want to earn the respect of my teammates and coaches and do whatever they ask me to do. They said at the next level it's different.

"I feel like that's what separates me from the pack, the other defensive guys in the draft", he said. "Basically I wanted to show everybody that I can lose the weight". But it really doesn't matter. "I'm gonna play good at any weight I want to". He did not attempt to improve on his Combine 40-yard time of 4.51.

The clocks on campus were showing a 4.33 time for Adams but there's traditionally some home-cooking involved at every pro day, and the only real "official" times are the ones the teams themselves harvest and keep for their own uses.

While Fournette's stunning run-through-and-drag-behind style means he won't really be a pass-catching back in the National Football League, it helps to have some versatility. "It's where I'm supposed to land, but that's definitely my goal".

There's no questioning Fournette's talent, so people wanted to make a big deal about his weight. His 42 total touchdowns ranks third in LSU history and his average if 6.2 yards per carry ranks first.

Adams was a leader on one of the stingiest defenses in the nation last season and finished his LSU career with 209 tackles - including17.5 tackles for losses - along with five interceptions and two sacks in 37 games.
