Santos eye Schweinsteiger signing to ´shake´ world football

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has said Bastian Schweinsteiger could be about to retire, with his comments coming as the midfielder was named on the bench for the game against West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

However, Schweinsteiger has been pictured training with his Manchester United team-mates in recent weeks as he keeps his fitness levels in check. It has been almost 5 months of this treatment and one wonders how much more of it the former Bayern Munich midfielder can take.

My idea that I tried to bring to the board is that Santos once again had a player with a world profile and that we look for names in European clubs.

A possible destination could be Santos, with Dorival Junior keen to make a statement to world football with a significant signing which brings them attention on an worldwide scale.

Galatasaray, Besiktas, Juventus and most recently MLS club Chicago Fire have all been linked with a move for the World Cup victor over the course of this ordeal and it likely that more suitors will join that list before January.

It's unclear at this stage as to whether a move to Brazil would interest Schweinsteiger, as it would certainly be a shock switch at this stage of his career which few would have seen coming.

This would be a big turnaround considering the coach attempted to sell him in the summer.
