World's highest basketball shot videoed at Swiss dam

Australian Derek Herron has broken the world record for the greatest height to successfully shoot a basketball - dropping it a staggering 180 metres from a dam in Switzerland.

Herron went to break the record with two of his friends, and the trio posted a video of the awesome shot on social media. According to Guinness World Records, the shot actually happened on September 26, 2016.

There are some things that seem so unlikely that you can't imagine them ever coming off.

Derek Herron, 28, threw the ball 593 feet from the top of the Mauvoisin Dam in the Swiss Alps - one of the highest dams in the world.

The basket was so far below him, Herron initially only knew he had made it - incredibly on just his third attempt - by the reaction of his companion at the foot of the dam.

Two years ago, the trio visited the Philippines together with child-advocacy ministry Compassion.

At the end of their video for their record-breaking shot, the Australians narrated about their trip to the country and appealed to their followers to help poor Filipino children. They say that they hope this inspires others to achieve greatness.
